About IP Address Lookup
IP address lookup provides information about the geographical location and network details associated with an IP address. This includes:
- Approximate geographical location (city, region, country)
- Internet Service Provider (ISP) information
- Timezone information
- Coordinates for mapping
Note: IP geolocation is not always 100% accurate and should not be used for precise location tracking. The accuracy depends on the IP address type and database quality.
Your public IP address is how the rest of the internet sees you — different from the private IP your laptop has on the local network. The ToolEdge IP Address Finder shows you both your IPv4 and IPv6 addresses (if your ISP supports them), along with geolocation, ISP, and reverse DNS information. The lookup happens in real time using server-side resolution, so the data reflects exactly what other servers see when you connect to them.
Knowing your public IP is the first step in dozens of common tasks: whitelisting a firewall, configuring a VPN, troubleshooting connectivity, or just confirming that a proxy is working. The tool also surfaces the autonomous system number (ASN) and ISP, which is useful for filing abuse reports or understanding why a CDN routes you to a specific edge location.
Common use cases
- Whitelisting your IP in a cloud firewall (AWS security group, GCP firewall, Cloudflare access rule).
- Verifying that a VPN or proxy is actually routing your traffic through the expected exit node.
- Checking whether your home or office has IPv6 connectivity from your ISP.
- Filing abuse reports or geolocation appeals — both require knowing your real public IP and ASN.
- Confirming residential vs commercial IP classification when configuring fraud detection rules.
