Splitting a PDF is the inverse of merging — instead of combining files, you're separating one PDF into multiple smaller ones. The most common reasons: you need only a couple of pages from a long document, you want to separate a signed last page from the rest of an agreement, or you need to extract one chapter from a 200-page manual. The ToolEdge PDF Split tool gives you two modes: split into individual single-page files (for whole-document explosion) or extract a custom page range (when you know what you want).
Like merging, splitting works at the byte level — no re-rendering, no quality loss. Each output PDF is a real PDF with the original page's full vector content, fonts, and metadata, just trimmed to the page or range you selected. The first 10 pages of your input render as inline preview thumbnails so you can pick by sight, not by guessing page numbers. If your PDF is encrypted, you'll need to remove the password first using our [PDF Password Remover](/tools/pdf-password-remover/).
Common use cases
- Extracting just the receipt page from a multi-page bank statement to share without exposing your other transactions.
- Separating a signed signature page from the rest of a contract for archival or DocuSign upload.
- Pulling one chapter out of a long PDF manual to share with a colleague without sending the whole 200-page book.
- Exploding a multi-page resume PDF into individual page files for ATS systems that can't handle multi-page uploads.
- Isolating individual pages of a scanned ID document for upload to a verification service.
